Aluthgama Beach

Location

Aluthgama is a seaside town in Kalutara District in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. It is approximately 63.5 kilometers south of Colombo and 68 kilometers north of Galle. Aluthgama is situated on the southern bank of the Bentota Ganga (River).

As it located between the ocean and river lots of water sports available for from kids to youngers. Amazing boat tour in Bentota river will give you remarkable tour experience in the country. Also can visit Kande Viharaya Temple with huge Buddha’s statue and this is one famous Temple in area. Most of the Buddhists come to worship this temple every day. Also, you can chill-out Ventura Beach and Moragalla Beach as a day tour visit. In the morning or late afternoon city walks gives you locals experience by tasing foods and shopping or sightseeing in the village by cycling

History

The history of Aluthgama dates back to the 13th century. A messenger poem, “Thisara Sandesha”, written in 1366 mentions the beauty of Aluthgama. The Galata Temple which is in the vicinity is believed to have initially been built during the 12th century but was subsequently destroyed by the Dutch during their rule over the coastal belt of the island in the 16th century. The temple was later rebuilt.
